The National Weather Service defines relative humidity as the amount of atmospheric moisture present in comparison to what would exist if the air was saturated. In essence, relative humidity is determined by the moisture content of the air in addition to the actual temperature. On its own, it does not indicate how much moisture is in the atmosphere.
